Some gifts should be left unopened. When her gran passes away, the only item left to Lou is a small wooden box. Although it’s not the car that her sister, Cindy, receives, Lou knows it could have been worse. She could have gotten Gran’s collection of toenails. When Lou opens the box and a guy the size of a stick of gum falls out; she changes her mind – the nail clippings would have been better. Not a day goes by that Lou doesn’t wish she could shove that guy back in the box and pretend she’d never laid eyes on him. Because of him, she discovered Gran was a sorceress and Cindy is a witch and all these years they have been keeping Lou’s magic locked away “for her own safety.” Without the magic she’s vulnerable to whoever, or whatever, is after her. With it, she’s a target for a fate worse than death.
The Man in the Box Volume 1 Christina G Gaudet Books
This book was an interesting take on sorceresses, witches, and wizards. It had plenty of action and a little touch of romance. Two things I really like were the author's description of magic and the perspectives from which the story was told. Both Lou and Al's perspectives were used, allowing the reader to get to know each character better. However, I felt like the story ended quickly with little closure. It also ended with a cliffhanger.Product details

The Man in the Box Volume 1 Christina G Gaudet Books Reviews
This will be one of my new favorite series. The world and characters are so well developed and immerse you in the story so well that you can just feel the joy and pain with them. Loved it!!!
Lou opens a small box, one of the things her Gran had kept with her until she died. Something fell from the box, disappearing in the folds of her comforter. SPIDER! She scrambled to get away, then smoothed the cover to find it. A man! A very tiny man!
It snowballs from there b an adventure with magic, another world, witches, wizards, & mythical creatures!
Its a good start to a series. I just have serious issues with the 25 errors I noted. It looks like the author could use a better proofreader, not a family member who isn't willing to be critical. Without knowing anything about the author before reading this book, I could easily tell that she is from Canada. Some writing styles, terminology, and spelling are definitely Canadian. I'm totally cool with that, since I am also Canadian-born, and now living in the USA.
I've been intrigued by tiny people ever since I saw the movie "Tom Thumb" as a child. (Russ Tamblyn played that part). So this story begins with a tiny man and a lot of magic. There's also time travel as the main characters step through a portal that takes them instantly back to the Renaissance period, I think. That time period is also rife with magic and in this time everyone knows about it. I enjoyed this story very much.
This was a pretty quick read and left me feeling like "where is the rest of the story?" when it ended. Parts of it were interesting but it would have been nice to have more details and to know what happens to the characters.
Lou finds a thumb-sized man in a palm-sized box that belonged to her newly deceased grandmother. When her sister Cindy finds out about the small man (Al), she suggests making a visit to their grandmother's house to find a possible solution to help Al get back to normal size.
The sister's are accosted by two wizards as they make their way to the grandmother's house; when they arrive at the house they find a portal to another world where there are mythical creatures and where magic seems to grow on trees.
The two sister's along with their new friend Al have an exciting life changing adventure as the story unfolds at their late grandmother's house. Inside this exciting novel, the reader will meet sorceresses, wizards, griffins, and other exciting characters in another realm. This is an excellent time travel/science fiction/fantasy read that kinda resembles The Indian In The Cupboard, by Lynne Reid Banks.
I dont care enough about the characters to want to read the next in the series. The title is intriguing but misleading. Sure there is a man in a box, but the story never tells you how he got there, or why hes there with no hint of where this is leading. The author wasted my time in this purchase, its like reading the rough draft submitted by an 8th grader. Full of mistakes. I felt as if I should have had a red pen. Dont read.
This book was an interesting take on sorceresses, witches, and wizards. It had plenty of action and a little touch of romance.
